Improving the relationships that matter most, and the emotional wellbeing that depends on them.
Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is based on the recognition that our emotional wellbeing is deeply connected to the quality of our relationships. Conflict, loss, role changes, and social isolation don’t just affect our outer lives — they have a direct impact on how we feel.
IPT focuses on identifying and working through specific interpersonal problems that are contributing to emotional distress. This might involve unresolved grief, conflict with a partner or family member, difficulties adjusting to a new life role (such as becoming a parent, changing careers, or ending a relationship), or struggles with communication and intimacy.
The approach is practical and focused. Rather than exploring the distant past, it concentrates on your current relationships and how to improve them — with the understanding that as those relationships improve, so does your sense of wellbeing.
Sessions involve honest conversation about your current relationships and the specific difficulties you’re facing. We work together to understand the dynamics at play, develop more effective communication strategies, and process the emotions involved.
IPT is often a relatively focused, time-limited approach — though many people find value in continuing the work as the initial goals are met and new areas of growth emerge.
I offer a complimentary 30-minute phone consultation. It’s a chance to talk, ask questions, and see if working together feels right.
